As if through a glass window
I have paused to watch her
Through the pouring rain
I saw the slight reflection
Of a rainbow’s beginning
Through the tears rolling down her face
I saw the light’s reflection
Of the cross in her glassy eyes
I have sat here for months
And nothing has changed
Her eyes still filled with tears
Their reflection still fixed
On the cross where love is found
Some wonder why I see this happening
Only the God of the universe can ever know
If I could break the glass…I would
The rainbow would stretch to the sky
Her eyes would reflect the beauty of who she is
Though the glass is thick and the tears remain
She stood fast and never let her gaze change
She allowed the glimpses of light to heal her
She took the grace even in her weakness
I have seen her heart more
Through the curves in the shaded glass
Then when the skies are parted
And the light is beaming off her face
This picture will remain
Hanging on the wall of my heart
Until the day the Lord takes me
I will frame it with imperishable gold
And remember to always be thankful
For its presence in my life
Though the rain continues to pour
The love of the cross reigns powerfully
Washing every tear and removing every doubt
I imagine when the glass finally breaks
The joy in our hearts will soon overcome the grief in our eyes.
