Linger

The bus rounded the corner to my home,
and one look at the empty driveway told me I'd now be alone.
Your car was gone, and so were you,
Through the rain and to the door I flew.

Dropped my books and bolted downstairs, going over every word we'd ever said,
Collapsed in tears on your empty bed.
I held your shirt to my chest,
To me your scent has always been the best.

I sob in incoherent moans,
The darkness creeps in - filling the room with lonely tones.

Lover, I miss you so damned much.
Your scent lingers, and toys with my mind... but you are still not within my touch.

Oh, this is pretty neat and nifty all around... you've conveyed some potent emotion here, perhaps you could improve the rhyme a tad... but a fine poem...

Never cling sweetheart, only be true to yourself.
I hate to see you hurt.
