every pot and pan
scent of spaghetti
laughter
around the table
one empty chair
half-moons
filled with hope
Tupperware tower
autumn chill
as the door closes
dark horizon
two blue eyes
watch out the window
a shooting star
one knock
on the door
a small boy peeks out
spaghetti
and brownies
one final wish
Author notes
haiku chain
His name is Branson, and he is four years old. He has leukemia, and is very ill. It was my turn to take dinner over on Saturday, and my daughter is his Sunday School teacher. She told me his favorite foods were spaghetti and brownies, and that is what I made him. He is a good little boy, and smiled with happiness at what dinner was going to be. What a small thing to do, for one so brave. Remember him in your prayers, for the Lord to heal him.

This is a touching poem, reaching out to a terminally ill child, trying to put a smile on that precious face, God bless you.
I like the use of haiku chain in this piece, it's like watching a painter paint, each stroke adds more dimension and depth of feeling. Best of luck in the contest.
