You rub up against me
with your long, willowy body,
brushing, teasing, taunting
time and time again,
you turn me on, then turn your back
when the slightest breeze ruffles your petals.
I lust season after season
but you’re hot, then cold;
I am lost without you,
I wait every spring for you
to come out of hiding
to show me a little slip
of your fabulous green leg.
I’ve sheltered you with my lush leaves,
tickled your bulbs
with my underground fingers,
you responded
wrapping your petals in my bark,
but I knew you weren’t to be trusted
when I saw all your little thorns
popping up and spreading
all over the yard….
they’re not mine!
But my thick bark is going to change…
this year I’m going to flirt
with your dirt-mate
……the lovely Lily.

An Elm tree and a Rose... who would have thought there could be such an attraction/relationship!! Such a tease that rose is. You developed this so well.
Looking at the picture of the ambitious tree, he may have better luck with the lily. I am certain you will have better luck in the contest than the Elm in his love life Jane

Yeah, the humor in this one is great. I also love the fact that I've never, ever thought of the relationships between plants until I read this poem. I mean, my mom always talks about how plants relate to one another, yadda yadda. But my black thumb never got it until now.
