with your long, willowy body,
brushing, teasing, taunting
time and time again,
you turn me on, then turn your back
when the slightest breeze ruffles your petals.
I lust season after season
but you’re hot, then cold;
I am lost without you,
I wait every spring for you
to come out of hiding
to show me a little slip
of your fabulous green leg.
I’ve sheltered you with my lush leaves,
tickled your bulbs
with my underground fingers,
you responded
wrapping your petals in my bark,
but I knew you weren’t to be trusted
when I saw all your little thorns
popping up and spreading
all over the yard….
they’re not mine!
But my thick bark is going to change…
this year I’m going to flirt
with your dirt-mate
……the lovely Lily.
Author notes
I can't believe I am posting this!
I am sorry - my muse is having a melt-down..
1. Write a poem to help an elm tree get over its unrequited love for a rose.
The tree figured it out all on his own.....lol
I did have fun!...lol

this poem really made me laugh. it wasn't just the quaint personification, but also the tone of the persona which suggests some degree of helplessness and self delusion. an honest tree, i must say!

-
Thank you so much 'damienjoash' for reading and your lovely comment. I am pleased you enjoyed this, and it made you laugh.
yeah, I wrote this from the attitude of a self-deluded, disgusted tree...lol

-
"you turn me on, then turn your back
when the slightest breeze ruffles your petals."
This bit makes me reflect on how fickle I can sometimes be. Good stuff!
Th rest of this poem is great, too. One of my fave nature poems I've ever read, think!
Good luck in contest- I am sure you will get an award for this!

I like you! You are one crazy lady and since I also talk to trees, I really like this (Did I just say aloud that I talk to trees?)
An Elm tree and a Rose... who would have thought there could be such an attraction/relationship!! Such a tease that rose is. You developed this so well.
Looking at the picture of the ambitious tree, he may have better luck with the lily. I am certain you will have better luck in the contest than the Elm in his love life Jane

-
-
Thank you 'JustJane' - I so pleased you enjoyed my silly write...lol
I found the picture of the tree after I wrote this - I thought it looked like a totally, frustrated, fed-up tree...lol
actually, I think my one red-maple was involved with morning glories - they were wrapped all over him!....lololol
-
-
Wonder if there is a "National Enquirer" type magazine for trees? Sounds like the makings of front page! lol
-

Yeah, the humor in this one is great. I also love the fact that I've never, ever thought of the relationships between plants until I read this poem. I mean, my mom always talks about how plants relate to one another, yadda yadda. But my black thumb never got it until now.

-
-
Thank you 'Angelica Q' - glad this made you smile.
I love to work in my flower garden, and have lots of houseplants. I know for some, they grow better if you talk nice to them....lol....but some I swear at seem to do well, too - LOLOL - maybe they are afraid of me!
