She sat by the open window
a sigh of despair left her lips
another day of rain,
clouds a uniform grey
her mood echoed the scene
she was restless, almost agitated
open books lay everywhere
but she couldn’t settle to read
her thoughts were with him,
the boy she met last summer
would he remember her
as she had remembered him?
tall, slim, gangly, but boy! could he kiss!
they had spent their days together
and had promised to write…
but promises are broken
aren’t they?
She hugged her knees
lost in daydreams
with a half smile on her lips
she hadn’t noticed the sun
glinting on the sea
but she heard the whistle
his whistle…familiar…haunting
and ran, barefoot
across the deck
to be swept up in his arms
twelve months faded away
as they kissed in the
sunshine after the rain
