'Shiner Bill

As the hot still bubbles, he's making a new batch.
Some may call it moonshine, he makes it all from scratch.
He has his recipe, he got it from his dad.
Sold all through the county, and some say it's not bad.

Billy is a short man, and he is kind of shy.
He takes his time to cook, the whiskey people buy.
A legend in the hills, is known by every one.
About Whiskey Willie, and how he raised his son.

Willie was his Grandpa, who built and used his still.
Sold whiskey everywhere, on up and past the hill.
Revenuers came there, tried to destroy his shine.
But Willie shot them all, "You don't take what is mine!"

He fed them to the hogs, they ate them bones and all.
He was then left alone, none dared to make a call.
Willie sold his whiskey, until the day he died.
No one could find his still, I don't know if they tried.

But Moon Jack (Billy's dad), took up what Willie left.
Kept dressing like his dad, and acted like he's deft.
Most folks thought that Willie, was still running the show.
When they needed whiskey, to Willie's house they'd go.

Moon Jack sold it to them, he showed them Willie's smile.
To get a mason jar, they'd walk a country mile.
Moon Jack, he went crazy, he fell plumb off a cliff.
He swore that he smelled oil, stretched out to take a whiff.

When they found his body, not much was left to pass.
They burned up what was left, and tossed it in the grass.
Now Billy makes his shine, and wears his grandpa's clothes.
Whiskey keeps on burning, the legend it still grows.

    HOODWINKED!

An ominous legend of a story of the rulership of "Shiner Bill" and the generational monopoly this family had in the moonshine business..Gruesome consequences for any challengers to the business have the readers in suspense...You keep the rhyme and flow going all the way through...A little like a Robert Service poem in character...Keep penning!

You did an awesome job of telling this legend passed down from generation to generation. You did a great flow on your poem and good rhythm to my ear. Congrats on winning the hoodwink. You did great. Keep on penning like this. These legends must be carried on and you gave me some good giggles with it hehe.

    Superb plus

Ah, 'tis a fine write, indeed, my friend. Imagery; rhythm and rhyme are just fine. Any truth, behind this legend? Regardless, it brought a smile to my face. Thanks for sharing. Just for the heck of it, I googled 'Whiskey Willie, and here's a google link about Moonshine.

    ironic

this seems like one of those old western poems that have become legend, like you said at the end of your write.

It also reminded me a little like Twains writing. I enjoyed this little ironic piece. There's nothing wrong, so there's nothing to critique

    Best Regards,
    Holly
