She stared at the sky and held her breath,
would the dream that stalked her nights,
a vision she had carried in her heart
ever since she was a child,
finally appear before her eyes
as she had imagined on countless days?
How she lived by the words of the village seer,
an old woman who told fortunes
living in that old run down house deep in the woods,
sitting before her boiling cauldron
stirring an eerie stew while speaking her incantations.
The old woman’s lips bespoke of a wizard’s castle
dwelling in between two realms
a time traveler who guards the portals to other worlds.
Allowing his edifice to be visible
only on certain mornings
when he soars the skies on the sun’s rays,
listening to the thoughts
looking for that one pure and suffering soul
he will lure by spell to lake and take to a paradise
who will be the only one to whom his abode will be seen.
Now the woman stands in the crisp air of dawn,
all the night’s images calling her name in hazy recollection,
heart pounding in anticipation,
could this hope truly be her fate?
One blink and the desire becomes visible,
sudden rush of joy flows within,
yesterday’s sorrow now, but a memory
while the wizard’s breath
blows across her as a wind
summoning her to a happiness beyond words.

Stunning imagery.

The title is lovely and fits the pic perfectly. I couldn't have come up with a better one myself. I like the mention of a village seer, it reminds me of some kinda shaman. The poem sounds like a little story. And whoa! The wizard sounds cool! Reminds me of Merlin from the Arthurian legends. It's like the girl in the poem is curious and wants to find it, hehe.
Also, your poem is so very interesting! I couldn't stop reading for one second. I have short attention span so I get bored and lose my interest very easily but yours just kept my attention!
The ending is really sweet and lovely. For a moment, I thought the wizard was more of a sly person but the ending left me an impression that maybe he was just lonely and wanted a companion like her. Actually, this whole thing should be a story instead! It'd be impressive.
Thanks for entering my contest!
Blessings,
