Goodbye

She was not the prettiest one on the block,
I admit.
But she sure made everyone look,
when they went by.
Born a grey bricks with dirt brown frills around her brow.
She was dressed to the taste of those that occupied her,
but not always the best.
Her semi-twin stood by her with matching galvanise hats.
As the left twin she was the nicer-looking of the two.
Her aura was homely, friendly, sweet,
and never without a smile.
The many that stayed with her, they didn’t treat her well.
But she remained loyal, and gave them a home to live in.
A lot of families began their life with her,
then they moved on.
Soon she dies just like those she grew up with in the area.
Smithfield Plains was her Home
for over forty years.
Once again she will turn into a paddock,
but not for long.
The new developer has a new plan for her next life.
My gratitude to her,
I want to share with you
Her.
I had the pleasure of having her in my life for seventeen years.
She was my surrogate mother, my safety, and my previous address
So
Goodbye my Home, goodbye,
and thank you for knowing you.

Author notes

My previous Home was knock down recently as part of a new development in the area. Its a semi-attached house built in the late 50s when my town Elizabeth was built. I imagined what it was like when the english migrants first settled in my suburb - Smithfield Plains, South Australia. It was weird seeing my house and the many in the area gone. Its a temporary paddock now.
