One More Beer
I don't think you understood then.
I don't think you understood men.
You would turn me so on and then you were gone.
I'd pick up the bottle again.
I never knew why you took flight
With everything feeling so right,
But when you were gone out came Elton John.
He saved my life all through the night.
Then girl, on that last mournful day
I came to your place just to say,
Come now, be my bride, but you kept me outside
With a D. J. you would go away.
To the river went that pretty ring.
Old Elton; so loud he did sing.
You were almost my wife, almost taking my life.
What a difference one moment can bring!
Now here we are, thirty years gone.
And still when I hear Elton John
Start singing that song I scream right along
With a pain that will always go on.

hey you bared your soul and I did love it.
Awesome.
Thank you.
She sounds like too many women and men I know.
I wish you all the best,
Jin

I've tried the many other women
and none of them were like her. That's the problem. Cheers.

And now I've called that brown dirt cowgirl's brother and sang blues for baby and me when I found that the husband tossed my high flying bird out for smoking a little weed just 3 years down the road. Maybe these bitter fingers will be holding hers again and the sun won't go down on me alone. He's going to give her my number. -

*Laughs*
The flickering neon stands ready to fuse,
as I turn my head to chug just one more brew.
'Cause the corn's in the broiler, the meat's on the fire,
If you ask how I am, I'm hungry and tired!
I'll take my dish with the slaw on the side...
I'm better off fed with a belch and a sigh!
