Meloncholy Moment

yesterday’s keys

do not fit what I lock in today

their openings are lost in meadows

and I keep them in a cup

I like the idea of the keys. The cup makes no sense to me though but others might. I like the idea of starting over each day with new keys and how every day is brand new. It's refreshing even though it's meloncholy. Good job. ~Des

  • simple yet very heartfelt! I loved the title! That's what made me read it at first! I think you did a great job of getting your idea across, and in such few words, it takes talent! props!

Short and sweet, but still carrying a powerful message. Well done, not an easy feat. Oh and kudos on a powerful, capturing title, it works wonderfully not only to draw in an audience, but it also adds a little something to the poem. A very nice write indeed.

    Nice!
Most people struggle to write epics in search of what you've captured in 4 lines.

I loved this! It reminds me of Wallace Stevens. The use of "meadows" is downright beautiful. There is one place I became confused: If the openings are lost, what do you keep in the cup?

I am not exactly sure why I chose to use "meadows," aside from the fact that it suggests openness and past experiences of freedom. Periodically I come across keys that had meaning at other times of my life. I wonder why I do not throw them away. I even forget what some of them ever opened. I am sure that others have had something of the same thoughts.

Very sweet, and it really gets the audience thinking about what they themselves lock up and what keys they are using to unlock these things. We are the product of our past, but the things we learned in our past may not fit what we are going through and living through today. It's like when scientists keep learned and revising their old theories. There is so much out there to learn that debunks the old theories, both in science and in life. Keep learning, keep growing, keep writing!
