Summer.
he found me on the pavement;
watching grazes sprint across my knees
and melting into chalk hearts that
meant about as much to me as 'forever'.
he pulled me up by my heart strings
and laced our fingers together,
promising never to let me fall again.
so I melted into him.
the summer was hot;
filled with storm clouds and the promise
of a downpour. so we lay by the
river drenched only in sweat and
yesterday's stale electricity, and somehow
we still lacked the spark you tried so
hard to invent. so we pretended that
we were heat lightning, flashing malevolently
without any hint of thunder.
Autumn.
the air was filled with the longing
for deciduous plants and the hope
that the wind would blow me away like
the golden leaves that filled my dreams.
but we were stuck with the ever green
foliage and the barest trace of a cooling
breeze. he didn't mind staying there by
the river but i longed to soar like
a condom wrapper in the wind; finally
free of the weight that held me down.
so I tried to cut away his dead weight,
only to be met by a wave over tears that
froze in the almost-winter chill and
held me still in a false crystal tomb.
Winter.
& i lost all hope.
Spring.
he promised to give me space and
let me float above the clouds where
I belonged, but I was just a kite to
him and he never let go of my string.
I fell short of everything I wanted to be
and watched him walk away as I sat
bleeding on the sidewalk;
just waiting to start again.
Author notes
Romance sure does suck. Hope it makes you feel though.

Understated yet emotionally charged...
Flight seems to be a recurring theme in your poetry - I think for most of us flight is synonymous with freedom - your use of it says you see it that way.
You don't talk of being a bird though but a kite. Kites are - due to there nature - usually tethered to the ground (& another human) and at the whim of the winds - not as free as birds...
I like what you've done with this - the use of the seasons also works for me, esp the brief entry under winter.
Well done!
