a death in a newly-flooded area

i began to emerge upon the shore
with hair draped from my forearms
and every time i blinked
a dove plopped into the water
only inches behind me,
the tide brought them gently
into the caverns of my back.
is there some reincarnate
form of bloodless sustenance
or do the holy simply
kneel and drown?
or: why open my mouth when
i can hold my breath
forever?

VERY interesting read. I see why you were given the gold, though I am not a fan of all lower case letters. I cannot say that I understand this poem completely, but it doesn't matter as long as it made me think! ~ Joyce

well! something serious here, the kind of poem which one can read perpetually (had anyone the heart for eternal reading), which does not get old, for i have read it a couple of times and it seems that each time some new verse is jumping at me with the fervor of poetry..
particularly, as others have noted, the last five lines were sublime
