Ode to Louie

His small soft arms receive every offered hug

A grandmother's special attention lends him stories and explanations unnumbered

His eyes still gleam in the right light

16 years is long for a teddy, but he's weathered life well and he will weather many more

He's been bitten by kitties and by children; his limbs twisted, and sat on by many

He remains resolute

He's taken more car rides than any other mute known to me

But his renewed smile gleams no matter how grueling his situation may be

A ridiculous and fantastic assortment of multicoloured wonder is he

My dear bear

Author notes

"He doesn't look old, he just looks loved"
