The Orb Speaks

While you may think I am exclusively yours,
that I light your night, inspire your dreams,
I know you fully understand, beyond  mere metaphors,
my duty to circle the globe, to shine my beams.

While Mariza has captured my power in her lens,
framing me artfully with entwined branches of deep brown
Moony in Canada climbs the steps to the roof and opens
her heart as she pens words worthy of world-wide renown.

Inspirational I can be, but also illuminating,
as I guard Yem's wood pile in the state of Maine,
brighten the NY night as I see Pisces rainbow and rockabye ruminating,
and shine on Denerica and a Pixiestix notebook through an NJ windowpane.

Over Philly I watch out for bozoloper and friends
coming home from a late night concert, and shine in brilliance
in a pass over Florida, to silhouette the flora and fauna trends
for Olivia33, the thoughtful, prolific poet of resilience.

I catch up with Catz in AZ, state-hopper carma, aiming her camera at me,
look for PJ and blushfulmoon in Kentucky,  search for Margaret G
from Canada, sighted in Europe, where I clearly see
the soft lights of maa's aura and Garuda just happy to be.

As I circle the globe on my nightly command,
I travel down under over the Sea of Arafura in Australia,
watch over the ducklings treasured by Hugh in New Zeeland,
reassuring Angelica, Jenelda and Hine as they spot me shining in full regalia.

Over the Philippines I soar, assuring Summer of a good night's sleep,
respite for Lee from his poetic lessons in Malaysia, you see,
then fly far North to find Sie in Alaska's vastness in a leap,
search for Hopewithwings, and find in Illinois the elusive Leah McGee!

Uniting all you poets in your uncommon dream, I shine on you all,
as I spot prolific Penman in CA,  Peteskid and Maureen  in the USA,
waydownauponjoy and Darlene in FL, FransB in South Africa standing tall,
Charli-J in Canada, and Ohio's Poeticweaver, who has the last say.

this was an awesome show of friends around the globe, wonderfully writ!

      It's always fascinating,
to ponder the lure of the moon,
to know he shines on us all,
as a unifier, a common denominator
for those of us all over the world.
      No matter the distance apart,
we all see the same moon...

Its amazing to think that even though we are all far apart we all see the same moon at night and the same sun in the day just from different angles..

oh I love this poetic tribute to the moon !
it is not only a beautifully connecting verse, but also a wonderful invitation to all of us to realize the necessity to become as detached as the moon and to radiate our light selflessly, embracing all without distinction ...

These are lovely sentiments you show here. The first stanza is clearly inspired by the moon. So many people on this site, with so many styles or writing and different personalities. The moon speaks to us in many ways, no one has a monopoly on it (except Yem of course.) Thank you for including me in your moon's navigation.

This reminds me so much of watching pairs skaters Kitty and Peter Carruthers doing one of their signature routines to "Somewhere Out There" (written by James Horner, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, from the Disney movie, "An American Tail").

Kitty and Peter were both adopted into the same family, and promote the idea of adoption. They've explained why one particular line from that song is so meaningful to them: "And even though I know how very far apart we are, it helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star" calls to mind an orphan child waiting for their future adoptive parents
to come along. Very moving. And Aesthete, your poem captures a similar feeling - a group of kindred spirits, separated by distance, but united under the same moon.

Liking the reference to the story,
      the adoptive relationship.

With that big moon up there
      for company, it does stir
      ideas of nearness to those
      who are so far away,
      particulalry when their
      location is not even known.

      Yes, the motley poets,

Always a treat to watch those ice dancers, and who doesn't love that classic tune "Somewhere Out There." That combo will melt any icy heart. Here's a mix with Balto, from a Stephen Spielburg production.

The mention of orphans and wishing upon a star creates a heart bending image.
It reminds me of the Orphan Train, have you ever heard of that? There used to be a small museum here with memorabilia and documents. Orphans, I think, tug at every heart.

The earth, the sun and the moon...they are mine, all mine, no one elses!

It's guarding my woodpile, how funny, but nicely conceived! It's funny because of it's source, my silly dream.

Wow, I think you got the whole gang in there...being a cynic I must now say...lets see how many of them actually read this poem...but that is a good way to make your cut-off list. If they don't comment, off they go from your fav list. And yes, I've done that on more than one occasion.

You know what is scary. I had an idea similar to this...not to use AP names (no one knows me here but you and a few others) but to express how the moon is everywhere, in different countries, and with all that varying thoughts and emotions.

Yem still needs to write one but I promised to try and write a serious one...I'm not sure I remember how to write serious poetry.
