So quietly it started
yet i read the words again
this tale as it unfolded
of hobbits and of men.
Enraptured by the story
a king, a quest, a throne
I lived the tale before me
a ring with powers unknown.
Merry, Pippin, Frodo and Sam
heroes from The Shire
I followed every footstep
that took them to the fire.
Deeds took on such grandeur
in words before my eyes
battles of great magnitude
and Saruman's demise.
Smaegol in his blackened mind
as Sauron rose again
the Nazgul robed in evil
sought the lives of men.
Wizards, elves and stubborn dwarves
the army of the dead
lived inside this wondrous book
the best I've ever read.
The final scene, the curséd ring
lost inside the fire
the journey home, so memorable
to find belovéd Shire.
The story lives inside me still
as it lived inside me then
the greatest story written
from Professor Tolkien.

Yes! The greatest story told. I particularly loved the story of how Arwen and Aragorn met. Your words took me back to when I was very young and read this magical tome. Thank you so much for sharing. This is a wonderful write.
