It's harvest for Thanksgiving dear and I had to think fast
if ever this crop was a-going to last,
I know deep inside you have a heart of gold
so don't worry my pet, you don't really look that old.
Now off you go while I tend this patch
soon we'll have cornmeal bread that none have snatched,
for it's the bright colours and flowers you wear in your hair
that will send those pesky birds off in great despair.
You do understand this honour I give
for the world can see with what a luscious portrait I live,
it's your calling my dear, surely you can see
for it's you we'll admire at Thanksgiving tea.
Now that she's gone I'll stuff this one with more straw
for she's a portly lady with so many flaws,
it's enough to scare the most hardened bird away
if they have any self respect they'll keep at bay.
But when harvests done she's all yours me lads
tear her to bits and I'll be so glad,
for she's bossy and mean, no doubt about that
and really and truly a nasty old bat!
