We're the same, you know,
you and I.
We share our mother's eyes
and our father's laugh.
But I'm older and bigger
and I'll take care of you.
I used to cry at night, you know.
I was scared of things.
But monsters don't scare me now,
at least not much.
I'm older and bigger
and I'll protect you.
Life gets hard, you know,
when you're older.
People don't always care
like they should.
But I care; I'll always care
for you.
I'm older and bigger
and I'll keep you safe.
Author notes
I have four sets of grandchildren and they contain four sets of brothers. (Only one girl - she's a bonus). This is dedicated to those sets of brothers.

I love it. It's so sweet! It reminds me of this quote: "Fairy tales do not tell children that dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children that dragons can be killed." (G.K. Chesterton). I don't know why. I know it's not massively relevant, I think it was the line "But monsters don't scare me now, at least not much."
I love the message you're conveying, and I love the sentiment. It's a great write. This is entirely unrelated point, but this is such a bright inspiring poem that I wish you hadn't used a grey background!
Great write! -

Thank you for your kind comment. Regarding the background, I had a black and white photo of a pair of brothers up there, but I let my gold membership lapse and they took it off. Maybe I'll change the background. celtic queen

Oh how wonderful! I absolutely love this!
Children and grandchildren are probably the best things that can touch your life. I couldn't have said something like this any better than you have. Wonderful job! Keep it up!
Thanks and good luck!

Very sweet reflection on how it feels to be the oldest sibling <(god i hate that word, sounds so mechanical!) Personally, im the oldest child so i know that what that kind of responsibility feels like.
Pleasure to read. Thank you.

Well this shows so much love. I am the only child so I don't know that kind of love. However I love my friends so I suppose that counts. In Love & Light...

This is what a brother should be. A very heartfelt and touching write. You've captured the bond that brothers share.

A very noble tribute to a brother. This poem plays seems to play upon an undivided bond of love and of blood. Splendid read.
