Silent and foreboding---
I lay here 'neath the tree
dreading the dismal future
that's now, awaiting me.
I'm wrapped in foiled paper
and adorned with a bow
so inviting to be opened,
then, it's off to hell I go!
My tag says "To Aunt Tillie--
from Your Favorite Niece."
With every passing moment,
my apprehensions will increase.
It's early Christmas morning--
Just past 4:00 AM.
She'll awake in a few hours;
That's when I'll be condemned.
She'll come down the stairs
and make herself a cup of tea
then, use arthritic fingers
to start unwrapping me.
I know she'll gape with wonder
and a gleam will fill her eyes.
Many years have passed
since she's been joyfully surprised.
She will treasure me always
but, that's not good for me---
Aunt Tillie has a vibrator
with a brand new battery!
