Mother Died Years Ago

Entrenched by heartbreak
and terrorized by pain;
the ones I love fall to their graves
with confused euphoria
painted most amateurishly
across their faces.

The plants from which I seek guidance
open their green mouths then wilt away;
one story repeated
over and over again,
dying to help me
but dying in pain.

And so I sleep.
day to night and night to day;
the world spins until dizziness shakes it.
The tremor wakes me
and the sky is red,
more time has passed than
can be counted by god,
yet my mother lays on the
bed next to mine:
a faint smile on her lips.

    !!!

    This is a really sad write, though well written all the same. It fits your choice of option beautifully, and the image you've created is vivid!
    thank you for your entry and good luck in the contest!
