The Comfort of This Freedom (For Veteran's Day)

Fear not, brother; be comforted,
though your friend is gone in death.
He had known the price to pay,
that you could still enjoy this day.

Comfort, brother, is offered you,
  from higher Love, forever true.
Grieve with hope, for hope is nigh,
and you are free to openly cry.

Author notes

I was struck by the photo, and had to write thus. I weep as I post this.

May the Lord bless our Veterans and those who have fallen so we could be free.

What peace you give to many troubled hearts

Many hearts were crying yesterday as many cry every day from the pain of war and even when they call it peace time a loss is a loss to all of us.Shared by many brothers and siisters who have served where hearts, bodies and souls were lost. Thanks once again...mac

    Excellent

How sad it must be to think back on friends lost for no good reason, I pray that none of us ever have to go through what any war veteran has
    Great write

Excellent. I also share those terrible memories and loss. A picture is worth a thousand words. Its why war should be fought by the political leaders, leave the youth alone, for the scars last lifetime.

I am not sure what hits harder: the fact that there are those who grieve, or the fact that such things exist that create reasons to grieve. In other words: am I hurt that people are killed and others mourn their deaths? Or does it hurt me that we still go to war so that people die?

And yet your poem made it very simple. Whatever the reason, there is war, there is grief. And that there are still people alive who deserve to be honored.

A spiritually uplifting and lyrical poetic testament.
God bless all our Veterans from both sides of the Pond, yes each was aware of the price they may have to pay but what a price. I especially liked that you included comfort and hope twice.

Oh, my goodness. My heart crunched just as instantaneously as this picture must have been taken.

This, fellow poet, should caption this poster!

    Fantastic...classically written. Well done!
    as from me...
