Topsy-turvy

Missing image

Plucking at a loose hair
marooned on the shoulder of
my azure sweater,
I watch my scalp unravel
into a pile of limp strands and brittle split-ends
as pretentious thoughts chip away
like flaking lead paint:

A hollow point of contingency deemed toxic if ingested

Green and white,
Yellow and green

Three, three
It is always three
unless taking in account November

[eleven]

An exact estimate
and a definite maybe

-counterbalancing the
mildly teetering scales
of yet another day

Author notes

Eleven is an interesting number:

[11 (number), the smallest positive integer requiring three syllables in English. The numbers of feet in a mile (5,280), furlong (660), and chain (66) are all divisible by eleven, as are the number of yards in a mile (1,760), furlong (220), and chain (22). The number of square feet in an acre is divisible by eleven squared (43,560=11*11*360) since an acre equals a furlong by a chain.]

eleven is also roughly how many pills I should take a day to better function.

Don't really care about the mathematics of this, as I hate maths, but this is a really, really cool poem.

I love the way it twists and turns, apparently in flux.

This is exactly the kind of thing I wanted for my avant-garde contest.

I might message you next time I have one.

    Best of luck in contest!

By the way, I feel my poety is a little similar to this. Maybe not as good, but similar in style at least. Check it out some time if you like!

ha, I enjoy your honesty and I think my interest wasn't in math pe se, but in finding quirky correlation.

I am glad that you could appreciate this and feel free to message me anytime. I am always looking for sources of inspiration and I will be sure to read your work.

Thank you for the kind words.

Wow! That's alotta pills! This is an interesting write on states of mind and what we do to keep them neat and tidy. We all have our tics and neuroses, but not all of us have the clarity to write them out! You summed up very well my feelings about anti depressants and other mood altering pharmaceuticals with this line. "An exact estimate
    and a definite maybe"...
Flip the coin, roll the dice, and take 2 more green ones!
Maybe that'll help out some! At least that's the way my doctor used to prescribe antidepressants to me!
Thank you for this twitchy and analytical write! Best of luck in the contest!
