Behind The Red Door

Behind the red door
mayhem and murder prevailed
dawn broke the blueberry of a night sky
the winds of change blew swiftly.

A wild stray dog paused in mid-stride
sniffing the air, snarling lips curled
mouth slightly ajar, fangs exposed
sensing death with animal instinct.

Horror shook the foundations
of the old brick manor house
with the dirty blood red door
too late for any wet salty tears.

Life ebbed and flowed, slipping away
silently to the musical sounds
of a hauntingly lonely train whistle
passing in the quiet blackness of night.

Evil taking an opportunity of chance
creating a blood-bath surge of frenzy
blood pooled, congealing, dark
upon the cold crisp white marble floor.

Life and innocence were lost for evermore
when mayhem and murder prevailed
behind the red door
a stray wolf hound padded off………

You have a great attention to detail!! You've managed to put me right there with that door. It's amazing what you've captured in this write. Let me just say that you kind of creeped me out... lol.
It's morning, the lightness is just starting to come...so it's not extremely bright in my house....and reading this brought some eerieness to it all. Phew!

Thanks for sharing this awesome read!!!

Very atmospheric indeed! It had me gripped, kind of reminded me of those wonderful gothic novels! And then you added sound into the vivid descriptions with the train in the distance! That was great, it almost made me jump as I read!! You set a great scene, and I could almost imagine myself stood there, looking at that red door.........

i kept thinking of the openning line of 'paint it black'. wonder why
uh kinda spooky though. like the dog. i could just see him bristling up and snarling at nothing, just because he can sense what's going on.
    sweet poem mook
