Modern Religion

Her reflection caught her.
Staring, immobile, and stuck in
the wooden floor. "Halt"
"Look at me!"
She saw a monster staring back,
jeering at her grotesque limbs.
One. Two. Three.
Something shook in her mind.
Freed from the wooden floor, she
took a stride.
"Pray my dear!"
"Pray to the god dressed in white!"
So she got down on two knees,
put her hands to her face,
and sacrificed nourishment
to the porcelain god before her.

Powerful write. The title is very grabbing to the reader's attention. This piece made me think of eating disorders and of how people sometimes can be shocked once they realize what they have done to their health. Hope you've been healthy these days. Keep that pen flowing.

mental illness can be so beautiful when spoken in the right words. I'm thankful no matter how grotesque I feel, I know it too will pass and come morning my beautiful self will return.
