Letting You Go, You Did First, Decompose.

You haven’t talked to me in weeks,
I’ve been trying to keep you,
And hold you closer when you pull away.
I’ve been talking more to make up for your lack of words,
But when you don’t write back,
The truth burns.

I asked you how you were and how your halloween went.
Nothing.
I asked you if you wanted me to stop talking.
“It was boring.”
What the Hell happened to you?
I flipped the shit.
I threw my phone and went for a walk.

Nathan.

Noland.

I walked and I cried and I breathed.
Your silence drives me crazy,
And I have to be still.
I sat by the lake and listened to the leaves,
Then heard a splash.
I looked to see a mallard ruffling his feathers.
His girl approached, none to fast,
And they slid gracefully across the water.
Her always a pace behind.
You always hated that I never let you lead.

Their ripples reached my feet,
And then returned,
Messing up the image of the trees,
Like emotions always do.

I saw the leaves floating atop the water,
It was the most peculiar anomaly,
They were at odds with one another,
The leaves would end up on the bank from the ripples,
Unless it rained.

When the sky falls the lake embraces them,
They sink to the bed of the lake,
And there they rest in their own beauty,
Individual still but caressing and knowing.
Comforting and loving the lake through the storm.

Obviously the lake knows it has found a treasure,
In those bright fall leaves,
A beauty that you can’t grasp or measure,
For it will escape you like a cool breeze.

But soon it has passed and the leaf hides its color.
The lake goes on loving,
And it mourns the leaf’s betrayal,
But it does not try to stop the end’s coming.

The lake lets its friend break apart,
So that its chemical soul can float again to the surface,
While she keeps all that he left behind,
All those things they had together decompose
Into the lake bed,
Where other leaves may lay,
When she is lost and astray.

So I will let you go sir,
It is in the past,
But it is too late to send you ashore,
I will keep close to heart everything we had.

I wish that this could continue,
But you are my storm now,
And I need new leaves,
If you will not treasure me as I do you.

I will not be a fool,
And learn nothing by your hurt,
Nor will I pretend that it was only hurt you gave,
For you taught me that love existed,
That not all souls were twisted,
I will take everything that was good about you,
And I will make it into the best part of me.

I never know what to say about a poem as far as a critique goes, because well, I'm not a critic. I'm a lover of beautiful words written by beautiful people. Know I read all of your work even if I don't always comment. You are a beautiful person and you write beautiful words.
