Because of Love (Song)

VERSE ONE ~

He led the way
up to the mount of Olives
He said to watch and pray
while in the place called Gethsemane
My flesh was weak-
He came and found me fast asleep
That's when He asked me,
"Could ye not watch with me one hour?"

CHORUS ~

Because of love
the Saviour took my place on an old cross
Because of love
He knew that day that the sin debt would be paid in full
Because of love
He set us free- died for not only me, but everyone around me
Because of love...
I'm saved today...

VERSE TWO ~

I lost my way
I lagged behind when they led Christ away
I stood nearby
said twice that I knew not the Man inside
I did deny
I cursed and swore- the rooster crowed so loud
I wept so bitterly there
when the words of Jesus found my memory

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE ~

I watched Him die
I heard Him cry up to God in Heaven
The sky grew dark
the blood ran down from the Saviour's wounded feet
He never thought
one time of Himself- He there became sin
That's when He won all the keys to death and hell
And He set me free...

FINAL CHORUS ~

Because of love
the Saviour took my place on an old cross
Because of love
He knew that day that the sin debt would be paid in full

Because of love
I must remember that He forgave everything
Because of love
I know I need to trust Jesus to save me
Because of love
I have peace and my life's no longer empty...

Because of love
I'm saved today...

Because of love.

Author notes

I actually rarely listen to secular music. However, when the Kelly Clarkston song "Because of You" made its rounds on the airways, it was hard to escape hearing it.

The message of that song is very haunting and sad, and the tune is one that drives your brain... which it did mine.

However, my brain is also driven by Biblical thoughts...

And since I could NOT get the tune out of my head, I decided to work with it, and make my own parody of this song, demonstrating my beliefs in Jesus Christ.

Though it may not be perfect, I did my best to fit the syllabication of every line in the song, because I LIKE doing stuff like that!

I just felt like it would make a good entry for this contest.

I hope you like it.

Do you know where you're spending eternity? If not, ask me how you can know!

And yes your best was definitely good enough!!! I'm new to this form of writing syllabication but I find it fascinating and I love everything about your work. Biblical facts put together to a modern song with just the right blend is an amazing feat. Well done and good luck in the contest. God Bless, Jo-Ann

This is a very dramatic, well written version of the old Biblical story. It's a bit longer than I asked for but please leave it in the contest if you wish.

Thank you for entering my contest.

This is absolutely beautiful, in meaning and flow. The lyrics move perfectly with the music. I rarely listen to secular music too and so I understand that everything we, as Christ followers, experience is filtered through His Essence and is reshaped.
You have worked this into a more meaningful song.
