Dear Mr. President

Dear Mr President
please come and sit with me
I'm sorry I didn't vote for you
hope you can prove me wrong
about some issues and values
that seem to bother me

what do you feel for the men and women fighting for you?
are you going to succeed in what you said you'd do?
You told us you'd get them back home where they belong
were you wrong?

how are you happy when we are so sad?
how can you smile when a mother buried her only son?
would you have the strength to carry on
without even a second thought
like she has to?

Dear Mr President
the broken promises
we've heard so many times
just shatter this country
and break our pride
can you fix this nation
without more suffering
I think we've all had enough
we are ready for a change

we struggle with bills enough as it is, don't make us pay
we can't find the jobs needed to keep our families safe and sound
I don't think you've witnessed the struggle we all have had to face
are you ready and willing to help us now?

what do you feel for the men and women fighting for you?
are you going to succeed in what you said you'd do?
you told us you'd get them back home where they belong
were you wrong?

how are you happy when we are so sad?
how can you smile when a mother burried her only son
would you have the strength to carry on
without even a second thought?

let me tell you 'bout hard times
people pinching pennies to be able to get by
let me tell you 'bout hard times
not having the funds to provide gifts at christmas time
let me tell you 'bout hard times
having to bury all our 'fallen ones'
let me tell you 'bout hard times
hard times
hard times
you don't know a thing 'bout hard times
hard times
hard times

how are you so happy?
would you have the strength to carry on?
Dear Mr. President
you'd never sit and talk to me
would you

Author notes

PROMPT :  Pink's "Dear Mr. President" (I absolutely LOVE that song)
Credit : Found that picture along with many, in the newspaper.

Thanks to everyone for reading. This all hits me where my heart is...and I wrote this from emotion inside of me. I obviously followed along with Pink's song, and those of you that haven't heard it... You REALLY need to take a listen. This is MY version to that song, and that song, I tell you...will bring you to tears.

Good luck to the others in the contest.

** please don't knock me on my punctuation or capitalizing letters, etc. I only left the ? marks in for purpose and left everything else out. Thanks **

I like the words but the alignment of the background detracts from the writing. Mr. Obama has a lot on his shoulders and I feel for him. I think he will try and is already showing that. Any imperfect human being will fall short no matter how good his intentions. I hope you can fix the background.

this is great! i love it. it askes alot of questions for obama to answer. i too am sorry that i did not vote for him. (my school held a small election thing asking each student who they would vote for if they could vote. it had a weird turn out. obama won for our school and then he won the election. lol i though that extremly weird.) i hope presendent obama finds this and reads it. it is really good.

this is wonderful, i love how you are pleading for our president to open his eyes and see us at face value, instead of out right bashing him before he even takes a seat. this is the kind of poem that crys help crys freedom, love it, not going to knock you on your punctuation, but you should correct prove and buried.

    AMAZING AND HEARTFELT POEM

A very heartfelt plea for our president elect to listen ot. I hope it doesn't fall on deaf ears. God knows this country needs alot of work done. I didn't vote for him either but I will wait and see what he does.I hope the democratic congress doesn't take over the agenda the next four years. Our grandchildren will be left in debt forever. Maybe he will help or may be just another politician who promises one thing trying to get elected and then does nothing he promised when he gets in. I hope he supports our military. They are all that we have between the militants and terrorist of the world and our safety for our families at home here. God bless our country and our troops. Sandy

    Time will tell

I hope that we can see something from this president. I did not vote for him and Mc cain was not a much better a choice. Don't get me wrong, both seem to be good men. I hope that we don't pull out too soon and then start to fight that fight over here because they think they won over there! Good luck in the contest, but more so in life! The Shaker

I didn't care for either men my self... but I thought if I had to pick one, I'd be safe and stick with republican...that's what we've been for years!! They do both seem "ok"...but when it comes to issues, they both seem questionable. I hope it's not the case, but it almost seems as though Obama was into the fame and being a part of "history", rather than issues we all have....and what needs to be fixed.

Again...thank you for the comments!! I appreciate all of them

I wish the president-elect could read your poem, because I do think he would at least "feel" it. These are terribly hard times, and I don't have a clue how any President is going to be able to begin to solve the problems... I guess we just have to hope (and those who do, pray). You write very well, by the way, and this piece is nicely crafted -- I don't see how anyone could wonder about capitalization -- it's obvious you did this deliberately! I didn't exactly "enjoy" the poem, but I am glad I read it -- good luck in the contest!

For him to read...wouldn't that be something? These are hard times...and not one president so far, has been able to fix much of anything. Barack 'claims' change is coming, I hope it's for the better. Thank you for such an awesome comment... I greatly appreciate it

I love it... I did vote for Obama and I hope the same things you do. I have heard the Pink song and you're right if someone hasn't heard it they should. This was very well written and I liked it. Good Job.

    Superb plus

I'm hoping that President-elect, Obama, will find inspiration from the work of the 32nd President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) who brought this country out of the Great Depression of the 1930's & 1940's. FDR created the
Works Progress Administration to create jobs; he also created Social Security, and helped to end World War II, with its horrible Holocaust, etc.

For those who don't know about FDR, here's a Google Link:

    http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=RNWO,RNWO:2008-24,RNWO:en&q=Franklin+Delano+Roosevelt+%2D+32nd+pres+USA%3E

Just google: Holocaust; Great Depression, Social Security, and or Works Progress Administration for further information.
