At 4am you struggle to rise,
time to gather all your gear;
that day of the year has rolled in again.
I lay there watching, I can't help it,
the light has awakened me.
I hate when this day comes,
when you have to leave your family
for two agonizing weeks!
Tears begin to swell in my eyes,
it doesn't matter how many times
I have to deal with this..
"two weeks in a year
and a weekend a month",
it still gets to me.
You'll get there at the crack of dawn,
work all day and into the night;
focusing on drills and tactics,
and the other things that you can't tell me.
My days will drag as if they're never ending
just awaiting that brief call from you.
You're an American Soldier,
Sargeant in the Army Reserves,
This is what you signed up to do.
Almost twenty years now, they've owned you.
I always tell you it's my turn with you now,
but this was your life before we came along.
I can do nothing but support it.
You've given up so much for me
the kids, and the others living in this country.
I grow more proud of you everyday.
I will loathe these next two weeks though,
when I don't get to see you
and speaking with you is limited.
The kids and I will miss you dearly,
we despise this... you know.
However, we'll do nothing
but be supportive of you,
you're our American soldier,
you do what others could not;
and for that, Mr. Army Reservist,
we embrace and salute you.

Prompt : *titlle* American Soldier
by, Aimee Hill
I had to enter this contest, as it spoke to me about my fiance...
who I love, support, and honor with all my heart. I know there's others
out there who either are in the Reserves, or have a loved one in the
Reserves, that I can imagine feels the same as I do. I hate that he has
to leave, but I love what he's done for this country.
The image is mine, it's my son and my fiance...
so I give credit to myself
Thanks for any and all comments..and good luck to the others in the contest!

I was hopeless at saying goodbyes as well. This sums it all up with the way you feel, trying to understand it is a part of him but hating it deep inside and yet pride in him and what he stands for. The whole churning emotions. Wonderful picture too.

Very nice
They do give of themselves for others. I see and understand your point. I have a daughter in the Army and wrote her one called, "Saving Grace" It is about why she said she had to go. I wish you luck and God bless him and all those that serve or have someone serving! The Shaker

Poet
You know so many in this country do not understand or appreciate the sacrifice that these people and their families have to make. Radical thinkers look upon them in a different light waiting for Utopia. But not realizing that it can only be achieved through the sacrifices of the brave and not mere words.

Good morning Bob
Alot of people really don't understand...that's the sad part. Maybe with the likes of others writing about it...they will soon get the jist of it all. Thanks, as always, for your comment!!
