Christmas won't come to those halls this year
The smell of fresh laundry and 10 cent ramen
dissipated and replaced by stale air and settled dust
The alarm clocks and television sets have fallen silent
All the mirth was packed into a series of vans
and driven away
Left behind are boarded up windows
kept safe beyond an ivy choked wall
the skeletons of childhood are rusting away in the court
graffiti is fading away on eroded brick
and even the ghosts have moved on to the better and brighter
And yet I dream of scaling a silent wall
to gather that weeded wonderland in a photograph
For today, a poem will have to do
The smell of fresh laundry and 10 cent ramen
dissipated and replaced by stale air and settled dust
The alarm clocks and television sets have fallen silent
All the mirth was packed into a series of vans
and driven away
Left behind are boarded up windows
kept safe beyond an ivy choked wall
the skeletons of childhood are rusting away in the court
graffiti is fading away on eroded brick
and even the ghosts have moved on to the better and brighter
And yet I dream of scaling a silent wall
to gather that weeded wonderland in a photograph
For today, a poem will have to do
Author notes
I actually walk by the building I'm thinking of in this piece, whenever I head into town. It's an abandoned apartment building of about 10 identical levels with an ivy covered wall all around it. A person of average height, like myself, can just see the top of a slide and swing set if I stand on my toes, over the top of the wall.

My one nitpick is how often you used words that ended with the 's' sound, except it's not so much a nitpick...I don't see how that could've been edited in this poem, and anyways, it flows nicely.

"weeded wonderland" Nice, nice.
Weeds usually conjure stuff that isn't so pleasant, but paired with 'wonderland'...this is nice.

You really brought the scene to life, I could must imagine the place, that once held life now abandoned. I'd be climbing that wall for pictures if I were you, bet they'd be fantastic!
Excellent write for the prompt!

Well painted, I'm sure one of your photoes would be good, but this depicts it so well.
Good luck.
