Let him be at least most of
what he appeared to be.
Let our hopes not be dashed.
Let this new beginning succeed.
May his heart stay true to the causes
he espouses with seeming passion.
May there be more truths counted
than lines of lies aligned to count.
Monumental is his given task.
Vicious and without mercy are
his enemies, some of whom wear
the masks of friends and allies.
He is history, burnished gold.
Let the history books say of him
that he ran true to what he believed
and served his country well.
Please tell me what you think

Even as an Australian I hope Barak survives all and turns a great country into an even finer one. You did a beautiful job here. Best to you fine poet

-
I hope all you write is ture. This country needs a change and a break. Only time will tell if he holds true to what he says. I can tell you I am tired of high prices on everything.

An amazing poem, even though I was -- and am-- an ardent McCain/Palin supporter. I hope he does say true to all the things he promised, though I think he will find Washington, DC more resistant to change.
Lord, help us all.
God bless ye,

Outstanding
It is always an exciting time when America changes its president and we need America to have a strong and compassionate leader. It's not my country and the politics are difficult to follow abroad as we don't get enough media coverage but I hope he achieves his goals and lives up to his potential.

-
Here here! I hope he is able to muster change, it surely is a big task ahead of him. Nicely put!

-
To be honest here- as you are.The world is only glad its all over, we, who don't belong, were saturated with it.
Change will take more than he alone has, he will soon learn to knuckle down to the system, as they all do.
I really liked the poem as it brings out so much in another mind and heart.

This is very close to my heart and I believe that he is what he appears to be, honest, loyal, true, strong, intelligent, wise and beneath all that...he is a very nice person. Extremely rare combination. I adore him and have never been concerned about a presidential election, ever in my life and I am 50. I prayed for Obama as I knew deep down...he is the one. His enemies are many and of those, there are alot of American's who can't get over his color. Sad to say, but still true. I, unfortunately, live in a state where McCain won by a very small margin. Everywhere I go, Obama is blasphemied with ridiculous accusations, from he is not really American....dah? But, against all odds, he will prove that he is the best president we have had since John Kennedy. I am, on that note, relieved that he has a strong security system around him or he would most likely would be dead already. Thanks for listening.
BLESSINGS & JOY,
Doris

Amen to that dear Wolfie,

We asked for change and change is what we got. Lord help us all

Excellent poem, Wolfie. The untested leader, eh? Only time will tell. While reading your poem I was reminded of Andrew Marvell's great poem about Cromwell--An Horatian Ode upon Cromwell's Return from Ireland--in which the concluding lines are:
The same arts that did gain
A power must it maintain.
History, of course, will decide if Obama was capable of wielding power wisely.
Warm wishes,
Bill
