I Know Who I Am

Behind this smiling face
Is a life full of pain and torment.
My life began not so long ago.
When I met my soul mate
When I had my daughter
When I met my Lord, My Saviour
That was when I started to live.
It seems so long ago now,
But it was only seven years ago
I stood on top of the bus station,
I was ready to jump.

A week later my life changed for the better,
I became a butterfly
I started to fly,
I found my wings
I found an inner peace
A place where I could value who I was.
I put those painful years behind me,
They were the training years,
Those years were the preparation,
Those years I was in a cocoon.
Life isn't easy,
But it's so much better.

Now I can smile at the sun,
I can thank God for all that He has done.
I know the meaning of life
The value of love
The joy of being a mother,
But most of all -
I know who I am.

Your poem is very inspirational and I am pleased for you that you have found the depth of yourself. So many take a lifetime and then some to doscover who they are.
    Good luck to you.

AMEN! I try to tell people this every day. If only they would or could understand that we have to go through things in order to know how much we actually can have after them. It's like telling someone to say sugar is sweet and asking them to believe that without tasting it, or saying don't touch that it burns, Until they do touch it and feel the pain, they cannot understand what you are telling them. We need the lessons so that what follow can be appreciated and respected.
    Excellent poem
