The Beginning

I sat there in thought
In silence, really, for a time,
Waiting and watching for the dagger
The weapon that would surely strike when I felt most safe
And shatter my heart back into a million pieces.

But you were patient and you stayed,
You held me, telling me you had no dagger
No weapon with which to lacerate my heart
Only a sword at your side,
And wearing the armor of God
With your best you would take on the world
And you wanted me along for the ride

I began to see things differently
To trust, even.
"Maybe you're different."
I thought.
And I am so glad I did...
