the two of us
are dancing
in an odd sort of way.
the dancers, our bodies,
the choreographers, our minds.
spinning out
whirling close
never quite touching
but almost there.
I call, you call
he said, she said
I think, you think.
it never fails to amaze me
how two completely different minds
can touch,
even for an instant in the complex dance
of two minds
and be one whole
joined in the thinking of a single idea.
and yet, here we are
trying so hard
to gain that connection.
did he mean it?
was he for real?
should I be hurt
or just ignore it?
am I reading too much into it?
am I being insensitive?
should I have acquiesced?
taken a firmer stand?
questions spinning through my mind
dizzying array of self-accusations
I've never been much hand at
psychology.
and still we dance on
upon the nightclub floor
trying to gain
equilibrium.
