Theo loved the farm where he was born
hanging around with all the other turkeys,
even if they did make up impossible things to believe
about what happened on that day
called Thanksgiving.
And really was so thrilled
when Orville came to take him home,
thought it meant nothing except fun
after hearing he would be part of the dinner.
Thought it meant lots of feed
along with the good life,
his dreams turning to panic
once he saw Orville holding a butcher knife.
But this was one turkey who was no bird brain
he found a clever way to hide
while Orville was just left scratching his head.
That day for Thanksgiving feast
old Orville had to settle for Spam,
munching on the canned meat
before discovering Theo’s trick
left so impressed he made the fowl his pet.
Now each holiday Theo gets to light up the room
in more ways than one
being a lamp he learned could sometimes even be fun.
