Awaiting a Happening

abandoned leaves waiting to be stepped upon
abandoned colors sulk in jealousy.
but leaves cast their shadows on forgotten fences
colors only visible to memories.
a car awaits at the end of this colorless road
only the etiolated trees know its purpose
emptiness or attentiveness; tedium or curiosity
only the road knows its end
and as you leave you wonder,
did you make the right turn?

this really makes me think. I love the ending, posing a question in a poem is wonderful, and the poem is very abstract, so it all seams mysterious. The only think bugging me is the word colorless, because the word color seams to show up so often, i think a better word could be used here. Besides that its wonderful!

I often take forever, it seems,

To choose my next step nowadays. Experience has taught me many lessons. This does make me think...have I taken the right turns? 3 right turns get you back to where you started...and well, here I am, back at home. The right turn is such an expendable term in adaptation and interpretation. I understand what your saying, but now your getting me to think, should I turn left instead of right now, if you know what I mean. Good job!

thank you! i was actually thinking of the fact that 3 right turns get you back to where you started while i was writing it. that's funny! i thought no one would come up with that or bring it up in their minds.

This is the kind of poem that really makes you think. It could be interpreted literally or figuratively in a number of ways. It brought a number of images to my mind both of colorless streets with white-washed trees and of many of our life's decisions. Wonderful piece! Thank you so much for the inspirational writing and good luck in my contest!
