Autumn Relish

Let your spirits rise
on wood smoke
as it drifts through
bare branches
to greet the pale sunlight
borne on a chill breeze

Autumn, season of change -
a russet blanket smothers
cooling ground

ripened harvest gathered in
by man and beast alike

relish everyday
the mists, the frosts
preparation for Winter

revel in nature’s bounty

You are so gifted! You pen free verse with all the imagery of formal poetry. I can learn so much from you.

You know, dear Sue, your rhyming skills
are good and to the letter,
but I have to say your free verse style
    is equal, if not better!

    Lovely piece,
    Bill
