led by my heart

Missing image
for me, love has no chronological limits
I live in a random circle of events
lovers old and new burrow deep into my soul
as arise they in my life, and as stories being told
I will never forget their smell
or the sound of their steps
winding towards my bed

the scent of him lingers
always on my skin
his touch embedded in my heart
sometimes healing or ripping apart
his breath on my cheek
his kisses, how they rocket through my soul

most of this life,
I have spent as a solitary soul
but twinned I was in the past
and to that ember of hope I cling
in love and passion I am lead by my heart

This is a beautiful poem, rich with imagery. Also some memorable language: most of this life,
I have spent as a solitary soul
but twinned I was in the past

That is both lovely, menigful and succinct.

I did notice something that may be an error. I would have expected you to say "I am led by my heart", led being past tense of lead. However, lead, the heavy metal, has the same pronunciation. Perhaps you are referring to a heaviness of heart and using the heavy metal as a metaphor and I have it all wrong! LOL

      thank you my friend

you are right, I have changed the title, the leaden feeling was correct at the time, bit I have come to grips with our unusual but satisfying relationship, when I wrote this I thought he had gone for good, but I was wrong, we are connected by the stars , you can not fall in love with an adventurer and then want him to stop climbing mountains and other death defying feats, so I feed the sheep, write and watch the stars, ..........................

"I feed the sheep, write and watch the stars" - That is beautiful . . . so should we all. I think you have just described the poet's place in the world. I like it even better than Milton's "They also serve who only stand and wait." That thought could inspire another piece. . .

    You grabbed me.

I knew a girl like that once, the one that got away.
For years after we split I could smell her...and the memories came flooding back. Thanks for the memories.
