Drowning in Dreams

I want to see what Alice saw
in that reflected side of life
we tread through
cursing wet shoes
as we rush through means to the end

I want to sing a mad hatter's songs
in a lantern-lit garden
not these stone and iron operas
The news night arias and lies
are opiates even a caterpillar wouldn't touch

I want to trade riddles with a cat
curiouser and curiouser
until I can learn to share in his smiles
I'm getting no closer to mirth
musing alone under this tree...

I want to leave this dreary real grey
trade it all to drown in madness

Perhaps a bit overly cynical, considering how my nation is rejoicing over its new president-elect... but I'm in that kind of mood.

I'm not entirely satisfied with this piece, but it's true enough to my interests and feelings and will do for now.

Hope you get some interesting entries.

I liked how the poem went in a twisted way yet still made much sense. The imagery was awesome and invoked scarey thoughts into my mind That story really does scare me- something about it is weird

The interpretation was good though some parts were a bit off but overall, this was a good poem which was different Good luck!!

Thanks. I can understand why you might say "a bit off". I barely know how I got this poem out of the prompt image, really. (It was the standing water.) But thanks for your comment. ^_-

I like the texture and color to this. You paint you dreams in vibrant color, so well from this world of shades of gray.

I see nothing I would change.

Now I'll go look at the pix.
