A child begging in the streets
too cold to do more than shiver
a hand outstretched in hope
you turn away unheeding
the chance to help is gone
the moment has vanished
~ ~ ~
garbage rotting on the land
forest robbed of it's elegance
earth fallen to destruction
you think how sad it is
but change not your ways
the moment has vanished
~ ~ ~
A simple request for equality
a vote that could change
a chance to make a difference
you say "Why bother?"
and do not even try
the moment has vanished
~ ~ ~
entire country ravished
starving and dying from disease
unclothed and uncared for
you shake your head in disbelief
but your wallet remains closed
the moment has vanished
~ ~ ~
religious fanaticism
replacing common decency
demeaning women and children
you shrug your shoulders
thinking what can one person do
the moment has vanished

This is a very good poem, radiating a strong message throughout the lines... well done!
-
this absolutely qualifies for the contest.
i for one dislike author notes greatly- there was no need for them here
as your words in the poem did for the poem what was intended- you showed
a world changing and that the power to affect it positively is in our hands.
nice.
thanks so much..

no need for your author notes...
you get your message through loud and clear.
it is a different take on the prompt
it was enjoyable and reminded me to be greatful and to make an opportunity available.
thank you for this entry
