Fingers entwined, but no sparks
were exchanged between us.
You search the shadows
for his cold touch,
only to become lost in thought.
My eyes take in the crowd;
blurred figures pass by.
I squeeze your familiar hand.
[We are alone, together.]

A very insightful write for one so "annually challenged"
You've captured a bit of life's truth in you well woven net of words... Excellent write and best of luck.

"We're alone together". What a safe coincidence. I have someone that I feel that way about and it is the safest and happiest I have ever been. Alone with another person that fits against my eccentricities like a key to a lock. This is a lovely piece.
Best of luck in the contest! -
Your imagery here is amazing. I love your wording too. It's so comfortingly lonely. [i know, that makes no sense]
'You search the shadows
for his cold touch,
only to become lost in thought.'
I love all of it, but these lines stood out. I can sort of relate...:]
