You were promised ice cream.
All you had to do was smile...
Mommy sat you down on an uncomfortable little box
And disappeared behind the umberella lights
Into that strange black nothingness
That engulfs everything
When the lights are too bright in your eyes.
The room reminded you of a space ship.
The dark walls contrasted by the blinding brilliance of the lamps...
The man behind the camera made a funny noise
And coaxed a nervous, half-hearted grin onto your face.
Snap!
The flash bulbs exploded into a sudden flurry of white lights.
And just like that, you were immortalized.

Wow. As I was reading, I was thinking "huh, this sounds like my mom and me when I was forced to get my photos taken at the studio", and well . . . I was right! You describe those emotions well, it's insane how accurate you are with *my* *own* experiences! I'm very surprised that you didn't win anything in the contest, seeing as how good of a piece this is!

Thank you for your thoughts on the child in the picture.
Your words are how you see her and I am glad to have
read this poem from you.
