As I stepped out of the gladed wood
I breathed a heavy sigh and took it in
And saw nothing but beauty as I stood
Marveling at this place, having no scars of human sin.
Walking still on the ancient pathway
I came across a humble burial mound
So I read the placed initials: L. A.
And then, Nature, as if in respect, made not a sound.
I slumped against a nearby tree
Thinking I might as well sit
Wondered who this person could be
Buried in this rectangular, dirt-covered pit.
Long I sat near that forest clearing
Contemplating the mystery at hand
Extremely joyous but also fearing
For I know who is lying in this earthy land.
He is everyone from enemy to friend
Every person from old age to birth
For every human being in the end
Returns to Nature and forms back into Earth!
