I should like to see
for once in me
an end to all this poetry.
This vain expanse of liberty
that only breeds hypocrisy:
for what I would, I am not now,
to be the good, I don't know how.
Yes, I should see
for once in me
an end that I can truly be,
empty of hypocrisy,
and ending all such vanity;
a vast expanse of liberty,
though life itself might envy me.
Yes, I should like to see one day
a way that I could get away.
To leave off all these chains of life,
that cleave us to this worthless strife;
of which will win, and which is sin,
of open gates, and who goes in;
yes, I should like to see one day
this poetry just fade away...
for love to come and rule the day,
love at last, to have it's sway.
Then poetry will have no place,
no written word, no wanting face;
for poetry will live, not speak,
for love will give no futures bleak.
Yes, I should like to find one day
a way to make this go away.

Congratulations
As Sandal said, I have experienced this feeling before. however, my experience was more of poetry being the unspoken, unwritten, unexpressible Being of What Is, which paradoxically ,is mirrored in/as this gift of being, seeing, writing, singing, living, dying....
Thanks for this beautiful expression, this flowering of awareness.

I have felt this, and you express it very well, that the closer I come to real knowledge, the less can be said about it. We can't have our cake and eat it too, as they say, and no one can be convinced by poetry, no matter how sublime. You go to the heart of the matter. Congratulations for gold!

this is one of the poems that touched me in a particular way ... maybe we can call it resonance or being on the same wavelength, whatever ...
your author's notes further enhance and at the same time represent the essence of your beautiful message ...
what touches me in your poem is something deeply sincere, deeply introspective and therefore liberating ... something so human ...
I often feel the same way as you speak of, here ... and know that pain ... this is usually when I retire into reclusion and silence ... a very efficient remedy for me ... (I actually am in reclusion and silence for the last week) ... of course, the mind still chatters, but the lack of language reduces agitation to a minimum - and difficulties in verbal communication to naught
...
I also feel the same way about writing poetry as you so wonderfully put it into rhyme :
"yes, I should like to see one day
this poetry just fade away..."
thank you for sharing this precious moment,
maa
