This Is Why We Love You Baby

This Is Why We Love You Baby

Your face, your body
Round and cheery like a badass beachball,
You'd never make it in a volleyball game.
After being tossed back and forth a few times,
You'd say "f--- this,"
Ram a needle through your eyebrow,
Your bottom lip,
(But not your earlobes)
And deflate.

They'd toss you into the ocean,
Damaged Goods,
And you'd float along,
Happily drifting on the waves.

While out there, you'd come across a broken bottle, a plastic bag, a broken toy ship, a sea urchin, and other
Defiant and Strange but Beautiful Floaters.

Loving us all,
You'd cast a tattered net around us and
Pull us toward you,
Hugging us closely, and together we'd float along,
Inhaling each other's toxic chemicals,
Sipping wine from our broken selves,
And rubbing salty ocean water on our wounds.

How do I strengthen the central image--the beachball and the net casting are contradictory?
