Life Quest

Life is more
than a series of events
that happen to happen to you.

If you position yourself
on the sidelines of Life
you will watch it go by
without you, in regret
of what might have been!

Life is a stream of Choices
that one makes to determine
the depth of thier stream
and the the channeling of
the surge of one's power
to detemine whether or not
it waters the wells of hope
or fans the flames of devastion.

Outward circumstances and obstacles
may make the course more challenging
but they need not defeat or dishearten us
in our own personal quest for Life.

In fact, it is more through times of struggle
rather than those of ease and comfort
that really help to bring out the best in us
if we shuld allow it to do so.

Life by default or on autopilot
also takes out the thrill of living
the sense of aliveness
the joy of purposefully overcoming
and makes us miserable misers of life
rather than the Captains of our own uniqueness and destiny.

Life by choice and constant persuit
make one's life one's own and special in
the effect it can have n the lives of others.

So, Life--I stand at the crossroads of my past and future
ready to face You head-on! Ready to brave the rapids--
to buck the tides and gales of an unstable world around me.

Watch out! Here I come! Let the Adventure resume!

thank you so much for your participation in this contest ... I very much enjoy the gentle and caring voice in your poem ... it almost reads like a letter from an elder to a young soul who seeks advice on his/her path ... with much understanding, experience, yet an attitude of humility, you share your own observations, viewpoints and guidelines with us all ...
I like the metaphoric language you use in some places, for example :
"to detemine whether or not it waters the wells of hope or fans the flames of devastion."
it brings your words to life ...
when you "stand at the crossroads of your past and future", you are in the power of "now" ... and this final guidance you offer us here, tells us all we need to know ...
    thank you very much,
    maa
