My name is Tommy Atkins;
My name is Willy McBride.
I fought in the fields of Flanders,
and waded the Tarawa tide.
I've been called 'Devil Dog'
and 'Doughboy',
'Murderer' and 'Hero' too;
And I did it all,
went to war,
because in my heart
I knew:
Some things are
worth the fighting for;
family, country, home.
We can accomplish together
feats the world has never known.
Carnage can impress upon nations
the true, true value of life.
The truest test of character
is stepping forward in times of strife.
That is the reason I serve,
on land,
and air,
and sea.
My name is American Warrior,
and Freedom isn't Free.
Author notes
To all who serve, and to all those who have already given the last full measure for their country. Ooh-Rah.

This poem started and ended on a lyrical note. The middle verses, although well written, seemed to come from another poem.

I Love this - it's very real and moving. I like its marching patriotism and trivia.
