He shook the North side of my world
and made a dream come true
The South wish of decades ago
now reality in your life
Ah, I sigh an echo from the past
when I too dreamed of a better place
and saw it ended on the edge of the hope line
The American Boy, That One made his way
and through all the cobwebs he needs to triumph
again and again to make of hope a solid truth

He touched the mind and body, very wonderful, seems he became a success, and I like, "Ah, I sigh an echo from the past" and the "Hope line" is original and different, enjoyed

Obama?
I did not truly understand, unless it refers to a black person's pleasure in seeing the election, of a black President, in the US. Her own disappointment ending on 'the hope-line', may not have been intended, but ties in neatly with all those lines in American sport, American football, eg, or the base-line in tennis. It is certainly true that Obama has a great weight of expectation on him, and will indeed have to triumph again and again. Perhaps the Administration is in need of a well-paid Court poet to bring that about, and bring back the days of Kennedy's Camelot - preferably not American.

I think he shook everyone's world
May the hope he stirred become our reality. Lovely heartfelt words.

To think a little black boy from Hawaii could become president.... In America, are not the possibilities endless? May hope always be within your grasp.

To make of hope a solid truth
Hope points to the future
It is alive in time
Hope for improvement we nurtureTo have what we need we pine
To make what we hope for true
We work for it in nature's forms
What works for me and for you
Through the elements of nature's norms
Decide first to have a good attitude
Then apply that hope for the best
To the people of the world, the whole multitude
When this happens we all will be blest

Poet
and a happy ending I hope. The aAmerican boy north or south. Just a little of who we all are.
-
for some reason the opening lines give me a snowglobe sort of feel. they're very strong lines, give the piece a firm trajectory. you bring your point home well in the end, hope can become truth.

All-encompasing,
hopefully to unite
North, South, East and West,
That One.
Eyes of the world
focused hopefully
on the American boy.

Ah, the dream, the loss. Sad, Mari.
And now our hope shines again...

I am seeing a few things I've been talking about
for years being kicked around a bit on TV now,
so there just might be hope for us yet...

Amen to that, there, here, everywhere

All America, North, Central and South. See we North Americans still have myopia, and only see the U.S. as America. Thanks for the kick in the butt.

-
And of course it speaks of the history of America, north and south, the Civil war ending slavery, bringing:
"He shook the North side of my world
and made a dream come true"
It's a hard road, and we aren't there yet, lots of prejudice still out there, but it was a giant step we took Tuesday.
And like those other two clowns said, I can see how this applies to your life too.

"Ah, I sigh an echo from the past
when I too dreamed of a better place"
I particularly liked that. It does help that I know something of your journey, and what hopes must have been in your heart. But beyond that personal knowledge, it has a poetic touch to it, a skillful way to express those dreams.
And since you asked
The metaphor "American Boy" is of course Obama, but it's deeper than that. It's hope and justice, it's equality, things I know you believe deeply in, and it's a beacon, because I still have no doubt that America can be that shining light of hope for so many and that the wrongs of the past can be corrected, we can be forgiven by the world, and maybe finally we can be seen as that American boy, not "that American zealot."
And yes, it's bound to be personal. To be the good people you know, for I think you do know at least a couple in America...if you look hard enough.
You've wound this with your life too, and I'd mention that beneath the hope I see a twinge of sadness, but whenever I say that you call me insane, and just for today I prefer to pretend that I am brilliant.

I'm glad you noticed that! My dreams, as well of all Brazilians was to see one man leading my country, he was chosen as president (by the indirect votes, presidents were then still chosen by the congress, not by the people, but he was the people's choice!). Unfortunately he died before January and with him died my politic fever
His name, Tancredo Neves.

There is a dream that people can see in America...young children can look and know that all things are possible for them and their lives. Other times and places have seen this too, the voice that people hear and rise up to follow...so this day can inspire a world of young eyes that dreams can be made and then made to come true... beautiful words here...h...

And I will extend that hand to all Americans with hope that they will remember and agree that only together can America stand tall. We need their strength just as they need out sensibilities, and together we can right this sinking ship. Okay, your metaphor is better than mine.

The early word seems to be that other countries are looking hopefully toward this administration, it does make me hopeful too.
But I'm still a cynic, pass me some wine.
