Yes, I lost my father too, and a gray headstone lends no more hope than those ashes. It is a hard thing to reconcile ourselves too...I lost mine when I was 27 and still relatively wet behind the ears.
I wrote a couple poems when my brother passed away a couple years back but I can't say they helped any...maybe if I were a better poet, but I doubt it. It's just a thing I had to grin and bear.

Oh...!
This is so sad!
I wasn't expecting this! Is this true? You are totally nullifying my 'original' concept of what I thought Haiku was supposed to be! I see I've much to learn! This is so tender, gripping & to the point! A complete picture in less than 17 syllables! I'm speechless & sorry for your loss.

Yes... it is my fathers death haiku...............
Death haiku were actually a budding tradition amongst the masters. They would write their own when they felt they were going to die... had a disease etc.... In this case, I've written a couple for my father............ he didn't know anything about haiku... and I wanted to have a few as tributes to him. This is one of them. I just can't get him out of my mind sometimes... so in this case, I wrote another haiku about his death and my experience with it to help settle it in my soul.

Yes! Absolutely! There is a hollow spot in my soul... where he used to be. It's tough sometimes to accept. Life changes a lot without the Dad... without the father.... I wish I'd put more time in him............ and he I.
