Raking Leaves

O tell me of your boyhood rituals
Did you smash the killer for his sins?
Did the wilderness grow death?
You speak proudly of idol warriors
Are you proud?

O tell me of your boyhood rituals
and summon me for I dare ask
Did the searing sun scorn your skin?
For I have never seen a leach burn
Did you burn with your death?

Great work again, the rolling questions really pierce the wilderness of the mind. The imagery as ever is spot on.

You know that I love your poetry, but this isn't just the icing atop the cake. This is the whole damn thing! The allusion here is comprehensive, and the alliteration used in Line 8 really conveys the snake-ish quality of the tone. Personally, Line 3 is my favorite because the question posed by the speaker isn't as easily cut and dry as it initially seems. This is a wonderful poem, but it is mastery in personal art.

    Keep 'em coming, please.

You are turning into a true novelist...this is fantastic in its simplicity and depth.
