The sun it gently creeps on by,
the evening drawing near
With friends we sit enjoying a laugh,
and a sip or two of beer
The que is slowly roasting meats,
the veggies baked in pies
A breeze is walking through the door,
it's as if daylight says goodbye
This is a special time for all of us,
to mix and mingle about
Acquaintances soon become new friends,
and then the awaited shout
The food is on the time is right,
the party is on the boil
Deep fried bird, some barbequed lamb,
and shrimp with dipping oil
The laughter rings the neighborhood,
it’s heard two blocks away
A call from two that we forgot,
but don’t worry they’re on their way
No matter what age you find yourself,
great people bring you cheer
So call your friends to drop on by,
it’s the perfect time of year

Such a lovely poem! Reminded me of many gatherings I've been to!
(L8 "it" should be "it's"? And L9 "This is special time" should be "This is (a) special time"?)
Really enjoyed this write!

Nice poem. The descriptions of food made me hungry...
It paints a very strong image, and it feels very cheerful and relaxed. -
