At Shangri-La

Missing image

There's a Shangri-La, not too far, just up the hill
Beyond that curve, where the beguiled green fields are..
Drenched with tranquil, emerald carpet spread below..
The mist is seen, veiling the sight of the bejewelled green..

I see some folks passing that way
Have the Cassiopeian stars come down to play??
Are they, the fairies taking a stroll
Or the good old dwarfs on patrol?
The muses nine, come here to stay
Some mermaids pause, to rest awhile..

These, I've heard the old maiden say..
Yes there's one at Shangri-La, with hairs all grey
She looks like a witch but with a heart of gold,
She has been there since time unknown
And has seen the eras change..
With not a friend nor foe, she lives alone

Those trees and leaves, she calls her own;
They say, she counts the stars at night,
And weaves a carpet by daylight..
None has seen that carpet though..
It's said she knows the fairies all
And constellations come down at her call..

She tells the tales of distant lands
Of sailor's woe and the flower girl's beau,
She seems to know them all
They visit her once, every fall;
Lovers escape to come here and dance..
She says, not one can miss her glance.

On full moon nights, she hums a tune
Haunting the land with echoes in the air..
To which, the tides too rise higher, they say
Ssshh.. can you hear the rustles there??

    Interesting tale. I would not think a witch would be in Shangri-la.

    This sort of made me think of Christine Rosetti's "Goblin Market." Something about the style of writing I suppose.

    Not sure how you could mistake a dwarf for a fairy or vise verse though.

    Keep writing.
